Locals assemble after the Coromandel Express derails on Friday in Balasore after colliding with a cargo train. 

Following a collision with a goods train, four coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed in the Balasore district of Odisha on Friday night, according to officials.


When the train was travelling from the Shalimar station in Kolkata to Chennai Central station at around 7.20 p.m., the accident occurred near Bahanaga Bazar station.

Passenger describes ordeal, saying, "Thought we would die." 


One of the passengers, Gobinda Mondal, exited a derailed coach through a broken window. He had joined the railway in Bengal.


"I had given up on anything. I believed we would perish. One of the passengers, including myself, was able to exit our bus through a smashed window. We were brought to a pharmacy for emergency care. Although we are safe, I did see some of the injured folks. One of them was complaining of chest trouble," Mondal said over the phone to News 18 Bangla.
