ATHENS, June 2 (Reuters) - Two cargo vessels collided off the Greek island of Chios near the Turkish cost on Friday, authorities said, adding that there were no injuries
The Singapore-flagged cargo vessel Potentia with 19 crew members and the Vanuatu-flagged ship ANT with 13 crew collided in the eastern Aegean Sea nine miles north of Chios.
There are no injuries, there is no risk of pollution", a coast guard official told Reuters on condition of anonymity, adding that the ships were not loaded with cargo.
It was not immediately clear what had caused the collision, the official added. Greek authorities have deployed seven vessels and a search and rescue helicopter to the site.
Off the coast of Greece, in the Aegean Sea, two cargo ships have collided.
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the incident happened on Thursday night about 9 p.m. in international seas of the eastern Aegean Sea, northwest of Chios, Greece.
The cargo ship Potentia, flying the flag of Singapore, had nineteen people on board, while the Vanuatu-flagged ANT had thirteen foreign crew members.
The Ant's starboard side amidships is damaged, as seen in photos.
There have been no reports of accidents or contamination.
A number of patrol boats, a ship from the Greek Navy, numerous helicopters, and an Air Force aircraft were dispatched to the area.
According to Equasis statistics, Ant is owned by Ant Shipping and Trading, a company based in Turkey. On May 30, the ship underwent a recent inspection in Egypt, during which it was discovered that the bridge navigation watch alarm system was broken.
